LG confers Mudasir Dar with 2 prestigious awards | KNO

Srinagar, Aug 30 (KNO): In recognition of his outstanding contributions to peacebuilding, social empowerment, and youth engagement, noted social and peace activist Mudasir Dar has been conferred with two prestigious honours, the 15th Bharat Ratna Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Award (2025) and the International Buddha Peace Award (2025). According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the awards were presented at a distinguished ceremony in New Delhi by the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha and Ramdas Athawale, Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India. The event was attended by eminent policymakers, diplomats, educationists and civil society leaders. Mudasir Dar, widely known for his grassroots initiatives in Jammu and Kashmir, has led impactful programs aimed at countering radicalization, fostering communal harmony, and empowering youth through education, sports, and cultural engagement. His initiatives and sustained efforts have not only helped restore trust among communities in Terrorism-affected regions but have also created a model of inclusive engagement that is now being studied and replicated at national and international levels. Speaking on the occasion, Dar expressed heartfelt gratitude, dedicating the honour to “the resilient youth of Jammu and Kashmir, whose courage and determination inspire every step of my journey.” He further emphasized that “peace and justice must remain the guiding principles of social transformation,” echoing the teachings of Lord Buddha and the vision of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. The Bharat Ratna Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Award carries immense significance as it commemorates the architect of the Indian Constitution, who championed social justice, equality, and empowerment of marginalized communities. The award recognizes individuals whose work embodies Ambedkar’s ideals of inclusivity and nation-building. The International Buddha Peace Award, meanwhile, honours those contributing globally to the promotion of peace, compassion, and human dignity. Lauding Dar’s work, the Lt Governor said, “Mudasir Dar represents the spirit of new Jammu and Kashmir. His commitment to peace, harmony, and youth empowerment is exemplary, and his recognition at the national and international level is a matter of pride for the Union Territory.” Speaking on the Occasion, Union Minister Ramdas Athawale also praised Dar, stating, “Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s mission was to ensure equality, justice, and empowerment of the marginalized. Dar’s work reflects that vision in action. By engaging youth in education, sports, and social harmony, he is truly carrying forward Babasaheb’s legacy and the message of Lord Buddha.”—(KNO)
